The people of Israel had all sorts of expectations about the coming Messiah. They had thoughts concerning what he would look like, where he would come from, how he would rise to power, if he would do miracles, and on and on. They had so many expectations, that they missed Jesus, rejected Jesus, when he actually arrived. If you cling too tightly to your expectations of God and how your life is supposed to unfold, you’ll miss Jesus too.
