The Apostle John begins his conclusion of his letter by assuring his readers (and us) of five certainties that every follower of Jesus should “know,” a word he uses seven times in this section. These certainties are intended to remove doubt and confusion caused by the false teachers. Part 1 considers the first two certainties:
- The certainty of eternal life, verse 13, and;
- The certainty of answered prayer, verses 14-17.
