How To Live The Life Of A Branch

September 18, 2022 Speaker: Steve Tecco Series: Abide

Passage: John 15:1–8

Hours before his death, Jesus prepares his disciples for his imminent departure from this earth.  In this portion of what is called the Upper Room discourse, Jesus indicates that, as in a vineyard, a healthy branch that abides in him, the true vine, will bear much fruit.  Fruit is the outward expression of the inward nature.  Fruit bearing is Jesus living his life through us, the abiding branches.

Discussion Questions:
   a. What is the relationship between the true vine and the branches?
   b. What is the distinction between bearing fruit and producing fruit? Who is responsible for producing fruit in the branch?
   c. Jesus repeatedly indicates that a healthy branch will bear spontaneous fruit! What is stated about the non-fruit bearing branch?
   d. Jesus indicated that a fruitless branch is an indication of the rootless branch.  What is meant by this?
