Jonah: The Reluctant Missionary

Jonah is a story about a missionary who God wants to send to Israel’s enemies. Rather than willingly go, Jonah runs the opposite direction. He would rather die than be obedient to God because he doesn’t want his enemies to experience God’s kindness! Through the belly of a big fish, God brings Jonah to Nineveh, where he half-heartedly tells them about God and they all turn to worship the one true God. Instead of being filled with joy, Jonah is upset! The question that Jonah leads us to wrestle with is this: “Am I okay that God loves my enemies?” Thankfully, God loved us while we were HIS enemies by sending his Son to die for our sins that we might be forgiven.
