John 13 - Love to the uttermost

Scripture:

Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. (John 13:1 ESV)

Observation:

Jesus loved his disciples (and us) to the end. He loved every step of the way, fulfilling all that he set out to fulfill. He loved us to the completion of his work at the cross, obeying God the Father even unto death. He loved us to the end goal of glorifying God and redeeming people like us. He loved us to the fullest extent - giving up everything so that we could have it all. No one loves us like Jesus. No one loves your spouse like Jesus. No one loves your children like Jesus. And to those who are his, to those who follow him, nothing can separate us from that love (Romans 8:31-39).

Application:

Having been loved to the uttermost, I need to love God and people. It is the only logical response.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to love others like you love me, and to love you the way that you alone deserve.
